iOS 17: Follow These 3 Simple Steps to Modify the Default Alert Tone on Your iPhone

In September, Apple launched iOS 17, an update that included several new features, including improvements to iMessage and StandBy mode. However, the Journal app and other long-awaited improvements weren’t included to your iPhone until the tech giant’s December release of iOS 17.2. Changing the default notification alert tone on your iPhone was another new function added by the iOS 17 upgrade.

Some iPhone owners complained online about Apple altering the default alert tone when iOS 17 was released. Some said that if their security system went off, the new alarm tone wouldn’t be loud enough to wake them up.

and one individual stated that they used an older tone to remind them of their parental care obligations. iOS 17.2 allows you to customize the default tone to your preference.

To modify the default notification tone on your iPhone, follow these steps.

Changing your default alarm tone is simple.
1. Go to Settings.
2. Haptics & Tap Sounds.
3. Select Default Warnings.

From this screen, you may sample and choose alerts that sound familiar, like Tri-tone, or you can hit Classic toward the bottom of the menu to explore earlier tones, like Bell. Another option is None, which will turn off your alarm tone but keep your haptic alert—the alert’s vibration pattern—activated.

Vibration patterns such as Accent, which is a brief single vibration, or SOS, which vibrates SOS in Morse code, can be selected from this menu. Your alarm tone and haptics will coordinate if you choose Synchronized.Additionally, you may design your own vibration pattern. In the Haptics menu, tap design New Vibration. This will bring up a screen that says, “Tap to create a vibration pattern.” You may push and hold to create a longer, single vibration or swiftly tap your screen to create a brief vibration pattern. Once you’re done, select Save. Then, give your pattern a name, and it will be chosen as your default alert haptic.
