Even when your iPhone screen is at its dimmest setting, it may still glow like a spotlight. If you have a headache that makes you more sensitive to light or if you’re looking through your phone just before bed with a spouse who is asleep, the dimmest your iPhone can go isn’t always dim enough.
The newest generation of iPhone screens can go all the way down to a single nit of brightness, but if that seems too bright, you’re not without alternatives. If you know where to look and what to adjust, there are a number of modest changes you can make to lower the minimum brightness of your display even further.
Here are several popular and not-so-common ways to make your iPhone’s screen less bright.
1. First, turn on Night Shift.
The iPhone Night Shift feature changes the colors of your display to warmer ones that are gentler on your eyes when the day turns into night. It does this by utilizing your phone’s internal clock and geolocation. The display goes back to its normal settings every morning. You may switch it on in the Control Center or in your Settings.
Night Shift may not be as strong at blocking melatonin as we thought, but it still helps by decreasing the blue light on the screen, which is a good thing.
Step 1: Settings
To turn on Night Shift, go to Settings > Display & Brightness. From this point, you can either set the feature to turn on at a given time or leave it on all day and turn it off in the morning. You may also change the color temperature by using the slider at the bottom of the page. You can pick between warmer and cooler colors.
Step 2: Control Center
To go to the Control Center, swipe down from the top right. Then, to switch it on and off, touch and hold the Brightness symbol and hit the Night Shift button.
2. To lower the display’s white point, use this accessibility option.
You may also change how bright colors seem on your iPhone by lowering the white point. At night, bright colors are very bright. Use this option to make them less bright.
To turn on Reduce White Point, go to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size. You may change how vivid the colors are by moving a marker beneath the setting.
3. Use the Zoom accessibility tool to add a low-light filter.
You may reduce the display brightness if you merely want to make it less light and don’t want warmer or less vivid colors. You may make your display darker than normal by using the Zoom accessibility option to add a low light filter.
Open the Settings app, then Accessibility, then Zoom, and make sure the Low Light option is checked under Zoom Filter. Here, you can turn the Zoom function on and off, but the easiest method to utilize Zoom is to triple-click the side button from anywhere on your phone.
When you turn on Zoom, your phone will automatically apply a low light filter to the screen, making it darker even if the brightness is already at its lowest. A little circle that floats will show up on your screen to let you know that Zoom is on. You may conceal it by tapping the controller. To turn off Zoom, just click the side button three times more.
